KitchenAid Grinder Attachment

The kitchenaid food grinder is a useful attachment for your stand mixer. For instance, the KitchenAid Food Grinder attachment can be used in a number of ways because the heavy-duty motor on the mixer gives it enough power to handle all sorts of tasks.

For instance, if you want to grind raw meat for use in meatloaves or burgers, it can do that.

It’s also good for grating hard cheese, but doesn’t work well with softer cheeses. They just sort of make a smushed up mess. But if you can grate a cheese with a hand grater, you can likely use the food grinder.

It is also useful for combining ingredients for a nice fresh salsa, by putting the peppers and tomatoes and other ingredients through the grinder.

TIP: To get all the meat through the grinder, put a slice or bread or a few crackers through at the end. That will push all the meat out so you get every last bit ground up.

And if you enjoy freshly ground meat preparations, you can also get a sausage stuffer kit that hooks on to the food grinder attachment. After putting the ingredients through the grinder, you can use either a narrow or wide tube to stuff sausage casings, allowing you to make links or larger sausages like kielbasa.

Ice Cream Maker Attachment

Would you believe it? You can even use your KitchenAid stand mixer to make ice cream? How cool is that? (yeah, pun intended, ha!)

Ice cream attachment for KitchenAid mixer

We all scream for ice cream!

You can make up to 2 quarts of ice cream at a time in this gadget. The mixer rotates the dasher around in the bowl to mix up the ingredients for the ice cream, and incorporate the air in the mixture as it freezes.

And even better, when you are done, the dasher, drive assembly, and adapter ring are all dishwasher safe! Now you do have to wash the actual bowl by hand, but that’s pretty easy. Just use a little warm water and dishwashing soap, and there you go!

This works a little differently than most conventional ice cream makers. You actually freeze the bowl before you use it to make the ice cream, instead of having a sort of tub that you put ice in.

One of the tips is to keep the bowl in the freezer all the time, so when the yen for some ice cream hits you, the bowl is all set to go.  Otherwise you are supposed to put the bowl in the coldest part of your freezer for at least 15 hours. The bowl has to be really cold first so your mixture will freeze into ice cream!

Lots of great reviews, and a great way to expand the use of your mixer!  Ice cream is always a great dessert or snack, and this way you can control what goes into your ice cream.

Grain Mill Attachment for Your Stand Mixer

Freshly milled grains has a much fresher taste, plus you can control the coarseness of the grind.

One of the reasons the flour tastes better is there hasn’t been time for the oils to go rancid. When you are using whole grains, they don’t keep in peak condition as long because of that.

Having your own grain mill is nice because then you are able to grind small batches at a time, just what you need to use at that moment, instead of milling a whole bunch that might go bad before you get around to using it.

You can make up to 10 cups at a time, so that’s probably enough for most bread recipes for instance.

This mill works best with low moisture grains such as fresh wheat, corn, oats, rye, rice & buckwheat.

The knob on front allows you to choose how fine or coarse you want to grind the grains. Some recipes work better with a fine grind of wheat for instance, while with others it’s nice to have a coarse grind. Cornbread would be a good example of something that tastes good with some coarse ground meal.
